Minos 2014 will soon be upon us. This year, we have a change of venue. Minos will be run with the support of Birmingham City University at Millennium Point in Birmingham on April 26th and April 27th. Only the place has changed. Minos is still the event for catching up with goings on in the world of micromouse and small robots.

REGISTRATION
There will be no registration as such this year. However, to arrange door passes, I will need your details no later than April 11th please. Just your full name and an email address will do.

Although this is late notice, please get in touch as soon as possible. Especially if you are interested in presenting.

Contact me direct through email or via the contact link at the top of this page.

ACCOMMODATION
This year, overnight accommodation will have to be booked directly by you. For want of a more obvious choice, we have chosen the Campanile Birmingham. This is reasonably priced, has a restaurant, is quite close to millennium Point and offers free on-site car parking. The room rate is £55 which is cancellable up to the 26th if you have a change of plans. I have no direct knowledge of this hotel and you are free, of course, to book whatever you like.

The location is on the map at the foot of the page.

There is no charge for the venue although parking at Millennium Point will be around £5 per day

CATERING
Exact details of catering available on site are not completely clear but there should be hot drinks and snack available. We can always send out a hunting party during the day as the venue is only ten minutes walk from ‘proper’ shops.

SPEAKING
Please email Peter Harrison separately with offers to speak. You can use the contact link at the top of the page to do this. We have variable length slots. A broad spread of people will be attending ranging from schools and undergraduate mouse builders to seasoned campaigners. Contributions would be welcome in all relevant areas, particularly:

  • software techniques
  • development tools
  • controllers
  • algorithms
  • chassis design
  • sensor design
  • motor control
  • line followers
  • sumo
  • lego
  • any other robotics related stuff

We want the event to have an informal atmosphere, so please do not be put off making a contribution by worrying about the level of presentation. What we want is people’s experience and insights. All contributions are welcome and you may have as little or as much time as you like (Well, within reason). Drop me an email, use the comment form below or the contact link for this site with some idea of what you might like to contribute and I will put you into the schedule.

We rely entirely on your contributions so don’t be shy and don’t think that you have nothing to offer – however simple or complex. Contributions need not be just about micromouse – other small robot-related subjects will also be of interest.

COMPETITION
There will be wall-following and full maze-solving competitions run as part of the conference, so please bring your mice! Prizes will be presented – usually in the form of bottles of wine and/or chocolate depending on the age of the competitors.

SCHEDULE
The start time on Saturday and finish time on Sunday depend on the number of contributions we get, so we will finalise that nearer the date. We hope to start at about 10:30 on Saturday and finish sometime after lunch on Sunday.

LOCATION
The Minos event takes place at the Birmingham City University Campus at Millennium Point:
