If you search for micromouse in Spain, you are likely only to end up at a software company site. However, Miguel Sánchez de León Peque recently sent me details of a new micromouse made by him and Clara Casas Castedo and it looks great.

Theseus is Miguel and Clara’s first micromouse and it has a number of interesting features. Not least among these is the use of readily available modules to build the machine. You can clearly see that the processing power is provided by the common ‘Blue Pill’ STM32F103 CPU board. Sensors are conventional IR reflective types. The motor driver is a Sparkfun TB6612FNG board, there is a Bluetooth module for connection to a terminal and the power supply uses a number of voltage regulator modules supplied by a single LiPo cell. All in all, this is a clever build that minimises the risk of poor circuit design and it should make a reliable mouse that will provide a great learning experience.

If you want to find out more, Miguel and Clara have made all the design and code files available for all to view and download:

Thanks to Miguel and Clara for letting me share this. I hope we can meet at the Portuguese contest next year.

Seen it at OSHWDem 2017 in A Coruña, The first micromouse contest in Spain with an internationally sized maze.

With a time of 39,91s to solve the maze (without previous maze exploration), it was by far the fastest one there. But they have to improve it to compete in the major leagues.
